Margaret Bourke-White

Wow! am I glad to finally turn in my National History Day project. I spent forever on it. I know it all backwards and forwards and to the point where I'm so sick of it-- it is literally making me sick. Fun. But every time I see her pictures I fall in love with again. Margaret Bourke-White truly was an amazing woman to research and an outstanding photographer.

Here is just a little sample!

Man dwarfed by his own machine.

The American Industrial Age.

If nothing else the Great Depression didn't lack for irony.

Kentucky flood victims standing in line for food. As the billboard proclaims America to have the highest standard of living.

Men with guns must hurt each other.

Bourke-White created the window for the world to realize men's morality in WWII.

Gandhi, in a symbolic picture of his peace and the hopes he had for his nation.

The refugees created by the Indian-Pakistani divide.

This picture is so sad and yet it marks one of the world's most horrific tragedies. It is so important because it says everything words cannot about the holocaust. The human tragedy, the world looking the other way, and that no matter what we cannot just stand idlely to the side and let events such as this occur.

(This is the picture that made me chose her as a topic.)

Thank you Margaret Bourke-White
for capturing these moments in time that shaped
and awakened the world.

Friendship Shrine

Because the world, especially mine right now, moves so fast and is so stressful, I keep this little shrine to my friends outside my door. The table was from my Great Grandmother, I have been in love with it since I was as tall as it. There is a grape decorated box on the lower level that I use to hide little red peices of fuzz from my favorite stuffed animal, Red Ted. I have my Valentines, Russian container dolls, and all the things that remind me of all of you. And to top it all off, the Lady Vase, again from Great Grandma.
Thank you all for all you do to make my world a little less crazy and a lot more fun.
I love you all!!!

Emulation of Hamlet’s Third Soliloquy

Houndstooth Sole-iloquy
By: Me

To heel or not heel – that is the question:
Whether ‘tis nobler in the sole to suffer
The slings and toe wedge of outrageous shoes.
Or to take flats against a world of halls
And by flats, avoid the pain.

To heel up, to slip into flats –
No more, by heeling up to say I am
Young the heels will carry me through
What each day holds –
‘Tis fashion dilemma
My sole doth suffer.

To heel, to flat –
To flat, to be shadowed by a freshman, Ay there’s the problem,
For to suffer shortness from the likes of a freshman
Is to be forced to hide, rather to be seen so low
Makes the shoes debate
That is my reasons
What a faux pas to be in flats!

For why would I not want to strut my heels?
They’re oh so fabulous,
Houndstooth always cheers me up,
And in flats my eye always strays longingly
To each heeled foot I see,
Such sultry shoes on others,
And me in flats
That heels may be the wiser choice,
Why should my mind and body ache for
the high heeled arch when they need not?

Why should I heed to common sense,
Just to regret the choice of flats for the hours of the day?
But add the horrors of crossing a freakishly tall freshman
Such an unknown requires the best of footwear,
Three inch houndstooth pumps
While I stand my soul pondering, my soles
Wishing of fabulous pumps
Instead should I take the easy way out?

As I weigh the risks of choosing the wrong pair, I fear I must choose
The bliss of well fashioned stilettos
The ugh of shapeless, ratty excuses for footwear
And alas the moment of choice has come,
With thoughts to choose both I must go
with my sole, Houndstooth!

Full Dress Shot!!!

This is the third version of this dress!!!

Originally their was no red, it was floor length, and way to bridal.

Last spring I added the red waist band for anti-prom and gathering on the bottom right with a bow.

This weekend I added the red straps, chopped it to tea length, and added the ribbon around the bottom. And I'd have to say the Jewelry is much more festive the second time around. All Great Grandma, but with a little twist in the earrings. Oh, and of course the little white stretchy bead bracelets from a friend.

Of course the shoes go perfectly!!!

And my trademark, houndstooth, was all that was missing. But shopping last weekend supplied me with the perfect coat to wear.

Being a diva can be so much fun!!!!!

Still playing catch up with my postings!!!

Hey all 18 here!!! Like the face of candles???

Clearly a special from my favorite girlies!!!!

High tea anyone?

Mine is on the left and the one on right was for the friend I went to tea with.

By the way English tea not that great, Persian tea on the other hand is really good!

Monopoly tournament!!! They trusted me to banker??? Clearly they haven't seen me try to do math. But the highs and lows of the game gave me a chance to make matching earrings to the necklace I made the night before!

Sisterly love!!!!

More, MORE, MORE Randomness

Halloween madness!!

Flip Flops, Fairy, Cosmic Witch (me, I pulled the dress out of my old dress up stash!), Oriental girl, HS girl (not much for customs are you babes), Gypsy, and well .... Jesus or Moses.

Both late to arrive (that is why they aren't in the above pic.), but a couple must always arrive together!!!

Mickey and Minnie looked Oh so fabulous. But a little out of place at their first non-costume party!!!

That is all from Halloween!!!!

On to the next random slice of fun!!!

TAB Christmas Exchange!!!!

This is my white elephant gift.

It is a Christmas tree made out of the Library cards.... Oh, the horrors of this abuse of library materials, I thought the library gods were going to spite me down!!!!

The closer view!!!

Don't worry Library Gods your faithful servant already fined me for not turning the cards in with my items.

Later that same night: Girly gift exchange!!!
